About us

In the vibrant valleys of South Wales Valleys in the old mining town of Abertillery is The Valleys Yarnhouse — a celebration for the hands, hearts, and heritage that have long shaped the craft of knitting.

We stock a wide range of yarns from internationally known brands, selected local spinners and yarns from across Wales, and our own small locally 'reared, sheared and spun' range of yarn.

For generations, the Welsh Valleys have buzzed with the rhythms of industry and artistry — the whirr of spinning wheels, the soft rustle of wool, the steady click of needles. Once famed for their mills and the skilled makers who turned fleece into warmth, these lands carry a legacy of creativity and care woven deep into their fabric. It is from this history that our Yarnhouse takes its name and its spirit.

Our community project also brings knitting, crochet, yarn-craft teaching to the local communities of Blania, Abertillery, Llanhilleth and Nantyglo with our free workshops and knitting time for anyone, offering in particular support for those who are receiving from addictions or life events.

Founded by, Tony (and his dog Draig), a lifelong knitter with over twenty years of devotion to both hand and machine knitting, The Valleys Yarnhouse is a place where the past and present entwine. We gather beautiful yarns from across Wales — from small farms, independent dyers, and traditional spinners — and pair them with fine fibres sourced from remarkable makers around the world. Every skein, every strand, tells a story of craft, community, and connection.

From our cosy corner of the Valleys to knitters near and far, we invite you to share in our passion for yarn, heritage, and handmade beauty. Together, let us honour the threads of the past while weaving the textiles of tomorrow.

The Valleys Yarnhouse Community

We are more than a yarn store, we are a community. Come and join us and just knit, crochet or share your yarn-craft we welcome local creatives to come and join us in store to sit and knit in company at anytime during the day. We also aim to work with the many 'Knit & Knatter' groups, Crochet circles and other yarn-inspired ways people come together locally. Our aim is to support the yarn crafts by helping foster the communities that make them.
