The Yarnhouse Press is the publishing imprint of Valleys Yarnhouse, created to share knitting knowledge, stories, and skills in book form.
We publish books for makers — practical, thoughtful publications rooted in real experience, community, and a love of craft.
Knitting has always been more than patterns on a page. It carries memory, place, patience, and care.
The Yarnhouse Press exists to preserve and share that knowledge, and to support designers, teachers, and makers whose work deserves to be read, used, and returned to again and again.
We believe knitting books should be:
- Clear and genuinely useful
- Beautiful without being intimidating
- Made to last, not to chase trends
What We Publish
Our focus is on knitting and fibre arts, with a particular interest in books that grow out of lived experience and community practice.
We publish:
- Pattern collections
- Technique and learning books
- Story-led knitting books
- Zines and short-form publications
- Workshop companions and project booklets
- In English and Welsh Language
Our titles are designed to work alongside yarn, workshops, and making — not to sit unused on a shelf.
How We Work
We believe in slow, considered publishing.
That means:
- Working closely with designers and authors
- Producing small, carefully planned print runs
- Favouring clarity, accessibility, and thoughtful design
- Valuing collaboration over volume
We aim to create books that feel as good in the hands as the yarn they are made with.
A Part of Valleys Yarnhouse
The Yarnhouse Press is an imprint of Valleys Yarnhouse, our yarn shop and community space.
This connection allows us to:
- Develop books alongside workshops and yarn kits
- Test ideas with real knitters
- Launch books within a living making community
Our books grow out of the same ethos as the shop: welcoming, knowledgeable, and grounded in care.
Submissions & Collaborations
We welcome proposals from designers, teachers, and writers whose work aligns with our values. Where appropriate, our publications reflect our values and connection to Wales. We are committed to amplifying voices that are often under-represented in mainstream craft publishing.
If you have an idea for a book — large or small — we’d love to hear from you.
